Molecular Addictions // The Caffeine Necklace

Everyone has his or her own secret indulgence. Molecular Addictions is a collection and a concept series where molecules are depicted in a way that shows the dark and lonely addictions we can have to addictive substances. Some of the molecules in the collection are easily accessible and consumed on a daily basis whereas others are illicit and taboo, consumed only by those that are truly addicted.

Since moving from New Zealand to Canada I’ve seen an entirely different side to addictions, things here are much more extreme. Here more people smoke pot, coffee shops are everywhere and it’s cheaper to do E on a night out than to drink.

A huge part of the project and what has truly brought it to life is the collaboration with photographer Kelly Jill. She has brought an entirely new dimension to the project and transformed the collection into a story. But it doesn’t just end with Kelly, I’m also completely stoked that this project gives me the opportunity to work with some of Vancouver’s most talented and inspiring hair and makeup artists, stylists and beautiful models who are open minded and interested in doing something a little more on the risky side and outside the box.


Molecular Addictions is going to be launched in a way that is totally different to my usual approach. Instead of releasing everything all at once on the same day, only one piece will be launched each month for the rest of 2011. This gives the creative team a ton of time to really prepare for each individual photoshoot to make them that much more awesome!

A piece from the Molecular Addictions Collection is a unique way to show the world what you’re truly craving as you go about your day. Kind of like a little wearable bat signal to other users who are on the same wavelength that you are.
